What's up with Bluebird?

What's up with Bluebird?
They called themselves Christian Communists in their own literature and they
rejected
private property, owning all things in common including spouses and children. I
can't
imagine anything more communist than that. They published a newspaper called
the
American Socialist. They also talked about free love, but whether they would
have called
themselves a free love community, I'm not sure. They did accept some members
from
other free love communities. They were not permitted to have exclusive sexual
relationships but had to rotate thru the community although their sexual choices
were
always monitored by the leaders to make sure no exclusive relationships
developed. They
also could not reproduce without a deliberate choice by the community (in their
later
years). They understood human sexuality to be a spiritual expression, capable
of
perfecting humans. It is interesting that they seemed to have developed this
view thru
experiment, completely independent of the Asian traditions which developed a
similar
view thousands of years ago.
I've read about them for years and visited the mansion house this past summer.
