Ron,
Yes, I have done that on our last BB and on our boat. Ample Power has a routine
to modify the regulator that will remove the built-in reg. and bring out the
field wire. I think you'll need to email David Smead or others at Ample Power
since I don't know if it is to be found on the website. David is the
owner/designer/engineer of the place and sometimes is not available.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out if you do it.
