The fuel sol is held in by the S/R contacts on the start solenoid. If the low oil pressure or high water temp shorts to ground ( defective) it is the same as hitting the stop switch. Also go under with the gen slid out, remove the rear cover on the Kohler, there is a fuse and diode on the quadrature windings, check those, Inspect the brushes and slip rings they ride on and check the L1/L2 and Neutral wires on the isolated lugs to be sure they are tight. After that you want to measure at the isolated studs L1 to neutral for A/C while someone holds the start button. There is an A/C relay in the control box that pulls in when there is voltage on L1 and Neutral, the A/c relay is the one that sets up the holding contacts for run. If no voltage, check for 12 vdc on the brushes. If you have 12 vdc on the brushes then it is a good bet that the regulator is out.
