3208 with a single thermostat
Hi All,

Well, I worked on the hoses and cooling system today and visited the
local Cat dealer.

I am having severe concerns and hesitation, about changing the
Thermostat.
The Cat shop had several exploded drawings and all were different
than my 88FC.
They were surprised to find a drawing of a single thermostat , They
said " most all 3208's have two thermostats." I also talked to an
old time 3208 Cat mechanic, He thinks there is a nut in the rear,
behind the back plate, he said "the cylinder head may need
to be removed". Yikes!

There are three bolts on the housing, the top right has a rear nut,
the lower right has a bolt that threads into the back plate. The
bolt on the left side of the housing seems to have a nut in the
rear, It is impossible to reach with your fingers, wrench or needle
nose pliers.

The single thermostat housing appears to bolt to a plate that mounts
to the dual thermostat fixture. The thermostat housing has a Cat part
number, but it is different than the part number on the Cat exploded
drawings.
I have talked to Jack Bentley who has changed his 300 Hp 87FC
thermostat and his description is also different.

Has anyone changed a single thermostat on a 300HP Forward Control ,
3208 turbo, with the air to air cooler.

I now believe that all of these Birds are different.

Any advice is appreciated,

Bill 88 FC, with a clean flushed radiator and some new hoses.
