To me the biggest drawback is not the theft, but the cable going into the Bird,
that would not be checked.
The biggest problem in electrical is either the wiring at the plug or the cord
iteself, so a portable one would check the plug but not the cable. The
hardwired one does both.

what is the advantage to portable EMS? The hardwire seems pretty
straight

forward ( note, I havent dont it yet). The portable has the potential risk of

theft as a downside. If it gets stolen it offers no protection at all.
