EMC-HW50C install
I installed the EMC-HW50C today in my 1978 FC and uploaded some
pictures to the Wanderlodge forum (the other one) titled "EMC-HW50C" I chose to install it under the dinette seat behind the transfer switch because it emits an audable 'hum' and I didn't want it near the main sleeping area. I mounted it on a peice of plywood that is cut to fit behind the transfer switch and to be screwed to the seat brace and floor. I mounted the device at an angle to allow room for the in and out heavy guage wires. I also left enough length on the wires to allow me to make the connections with the device lifted up and afterward mount the board with the device and wires attached. It is not easy to get those heavy guage wires on the output side through the current sensors and into the connectors. If you mount the device in a hard to get at place and then try to wire it up, you will discover many new ways of concatinating four letter words. One other thing to think about is connecting the remote cable while the cover is off the device. The circuit card that it plugs into can move a little and make it tough to get the connector inserted. In my installation the connector is not directly visable and so I pluged in the cable while I could still move the card if needed, and then installed the cover. It works as advertised. I was too far from the power connection for my 30 amp cord, so I plugged into a a 20 amp outlet with a long extention cord to test. Well, it shut off right away with a low voltage message. I discovered one of the under cabnet heaters was turning on and that was too much for the small guage wire. The second test was with a solid 30 amp connection. That worked fine and read out the voltage and current as expected. The third test was the generator. Sixty one Hz, 130 volts on one leg, 125 volts on the other. Looks like I need to figure out how to adjust the voltage on the Onan 6.5. I don't know if there is a way since it is a 1978 unit. I had to replace a burned wire once, and I never saw a regulator anywhere. Gardner 78FC33 |
