Parking info @ or near Talledaga Speedway
Hey Tom,

How is the dinette working out? Peggy and I have worked at Talledaga three
times, this did not give us any preference on parking spaces, but this is what I
can tell you. Do NOT park in the free spaces in the fields across from the race
track, you will need a toad, and it will take you several hours after the race
to get back home. However, there is free camping East of the track back in a
wooded area. People park everywhere, have no consideration for anyone near
them, and it is a real free for all. BUT it is free. I would advise getting
there Thursday, I beleive that is when the gate opens for this area, if you get
there early you will be able to get high ground, because it you don't and get
low ground and it rains, you will be in the mud. It rained both years we parked
back there, but we were on a slope and waited until Monday morning to leave.
Leaving Sunday after the race is another nightmare.

I would certainly go for free tickets, the track is awesome. Your cooler that
you take in must fit in a certain size and this is pretty strictly enforced.
Also take ear plugs, the noise is deftening. Take your own beverages and
snacks, things are terribly expensive. This is a stella redneck event; we
camped with people that saved all year long to get good seats to come to this
one or two races. The free camping area has no power or water, unless it has
been added in the last five years, but I doubt it. Seems like every year they
were cutting back on "free camping" so near to the track. Parking anywhere is a
nightmare. You can run your generator all you want and we had to at night it
was so humid; in the daytime we opened all the windows so the cat would get some
air.

It was an absolute gas working this event; we did everything from stub
tickets, to gate security, to stuffing people onto trams, and yanking them off.
You can go on-line I think and see the track so you will know where your seats
are; AND that will give you some idea how far you will have to trek; light
clothes, big hats and lots of water.

Good luck, we really enjoyed it and consider this one of the most fun things
we did while full-timing.
