Memorial Day
Dan history has been one of my passions for over 50 years especially
war history. The number of deaths in Iraq is a sore point with me
although I do agree with you. However the average american only
parrots what they hear every day in the media how many americans were
killed that day. And our soldiers have the very best body armor and
equipment the world has ever seen in battle and that is why the
deaths have been reduced to just over 3400!

Good thing we are not fighting the american civil war now for what
would the media do when the days death toll is reported as 20,000
americans killed and another 4000 horses and mules killed. I know the
WW2 veterans like my father were called the "greatest generation" so
what should we call those that were killed during our american Civil
war when many of them went into battle bare foot and just after they
took a piece of cloth and wrote their names on it, pinned it to the
breast and then marched into battle knowing they would be killed? How
quiickly we forget what this fantastic county is all about.
