John,
The diagrams and directions refer to a "safaety tape." It is pressure
sensitive and under the door frame. It is probaly shorted out. It is
is a safety measure so that your foot does not get crushed when the
step retracts, if you are on the step. In reality it does not seem
necessary since it is impossible to shut the door while you are on the
step! The strip is black and yellow striped and at one end (right?)
are two wires. You can cut them and that may fix the problem. If not
you can look elsewhere, but I suspect this will solve the problem. I
learned this trick at a RIV a few years ago. One of the BB service
techs told me about it.
