Engine Alternator overcharging
I am having a problem with my Leece-Neville alternator overcharging. I
had it rebuilt as preventive maint.,it woked ok for about 800-1000 miles then it started over charging 15-15.5 volts & 80-100amps. I took it back to the rebuilder and they said the regulator was bad so they replaced it. They told me to check the voltage to the small + post under the regulator. I was getting about .75 of a volt less than battery voltage as measured at the big + post. I could not find where the volt drop was so I ran a new wire from the ignition operated solinoid above the throttle pedal. The alternator is still overcharging. We are supposed to leave on Friday for a 4000 mile trip so this is a big problem. Did Bluebird use a special regulator since they have Batt. power to the alternator all of the time? The rebuilder may have installed the wrong regulator. Thanks Jim Matus 84FC35 Rescue CA |
