Battery Charger
Alvie, you have the same set up I do. the heart inverter has a
battery charger built into it and the PO (previous owner) added two Truecharge 40amp chargers. the Truecharge units claim they deliver 80 amps of value because of the way the unit delivers it. but who knows what the truth is. If the converter ( batteryCharger) burnt out in the heart inverter and your PO installed the WFco unit, maybe there is an issue with circuitry or somthing that has now failed two units. My two retrofit Truecharge units are located in the third bay back from the entry door. it looks as it took some effort to install them there, I assumed it was placed there to keep it away from the engine heat which is close to the inverter/converter location???????? After replacing 12 interstate 12v batteries in two years I removed all 8 house batteries , removed the upper tray and modified the box and lower tray to house 6 L16 batteries. I think two or four l16 would do as the runtime to recharge a battery is directly proportional to the amount of use. I can run on the 6 batteries for 3 days then recharge with 6 hours of genset charging. or I could run on 2 batteries for one day with two hours of genset charging. The main advantage of having 6 batteries is if I run the genset 2 hours every day the batteries dont cycle through a spent recharge. (Batteries have a limited number of depleted recharge cycles.) I would look for the reason the wfco converter and or heart converter failed prior to installing another . The failed converter/charge must be a result of some issue???? I often wanted to look into a post that claimed that their detroit alt got hot when the shore power charger was on????? I wonder if the Converter/charger gets hot when the detroit is pumping amps????????? It seems to me that RV's have a higher than normal engine altinator failure and 110 batterycharger failure.
