The only problem with the "Fortress of Solitude"
Hi George,
The deadbolt should have a knob on the inside of the door (way down low) and a home type key slot on the outside. You should physically be able to see the knob move when you actuate the electric solenoid on the deadbolt. If you can't see it and manually turn it, something may be broken on the linkage. This deadbolt is the lower of the two locks. The door release has its own lock that may have a push down/pull up button like a car door. That one has nothing to do with the electric deadbolt. Modifications may have been made to yours and, as you state, it could be a dangerous situation if you are unable to manually release the deadbolt. Rich D.
