strange exhaust question

Bruce,
The exhaust on my 87FC is similar to what you are describing,
although mine is turned slightly down and back toward the rear wheel.
It sticks out just far enough that the exhaust does not end up on the
tire or wheel. I have never had any problems with this set-up.
If you want I can send you some photos of mine so you can see what I
have.
