On my FC the outlet pipe makes about a 45 degree bend up and over time a nice rusted hole opened up at this location. To fix this problem I covered the rust out area with some sheet metal and some fire resistant gasket material and covered the rusted hole at that point. I used gasket material first and then made a sheet metal cover to surround the pipe and then I used stainless steel hose clamps to hold the patch in place. It really did the trick for getting rid of that hole after the muffler and has lasted so far two years. Oh yes I did clean up the area around the rustout and primed it with a rust stopping paint. Now I was wondering if your muffler could be repaired in this manner? They certainly have material that you can rap around your muffler and with a little bit of brain power you could put a sleeve around the whole muffler or whatever area that giving you the problem.
