Assuming the 40' is the same as the 38'. To fit the unit in the charger compartment would be tight. Probable not a good idea. Our '87 PT38 has two 120v lines across the top of that compartment and they would need to be removed to get the new unit in. I had to remove these lines to get the old battery boilers out. Also one of the two 120 receptacles will need to be relocated to below the outward receptacle. I'd install the new unit in the same location as the existing unit.
