Question about repowering early PT's
Our 77FC35 does a stately 35MPH or so up most moderate hills, just gives us more time to appreciate the scenery Smile

Ernie,

You are right again.

I am the proud owner of one of the 6V92 "Red Block" turtles.

Early in our Wanderlodge experiences, I was shooting the breeze with

the service guys at Williams Detroit/Allison about possible power

upgrades. They said that the 8V was too long so that it was not an

option in my coach. I would assume that the Silver block is a

potential since they were both offered as an option in the 82/early

83's and the Silver was upgraded w/DDEC in later years. Some of these

engines were rated at 375-400 in trucks (and 450-500 in marine use 8-).

The guys at Williams were concerned about the ability of the

transmission to take any big increase in HP/torque ratings so that

would have to resolved.

I agree with the sentiments stated earlier, if you don't think you

would like living in the truck lanes of America, you would be better

off getting a coach with the 8V especially if you are going to pull

anything.
