bargain or money hole?

Can anyone tell me what’s the deal with the very low priced red & white
1980 bird listed for sale on the vintagebirds.com site for $17k? Why is
the price so low? I contacted the owners, and they said I’d be ready to
roll if I just put new tires on it. We’re looking to get our first,
don’t really care about the non-standard paint, like the price, but is
spooking me because ya usually gets what ya pays for. We’re looking for
a live-aboard machine for me, the pretty wife and 4 wonderful kids under
4. We’ll be in the States for 6 months and then would like to sell or
store, probably store for 2-4 years before returning to the States
again. While we’re in the “upper 48” it’s all traveling.
