Generator vibration

Hello Scott,

This is a project that is nearing the top of my list. I also have the Yanmar
Kohler set up.
in our 83 FC. I recently completed re-insulating my engine compartment and
installing a
new salon floor. I used products from Soundown a company that specialized in
quieting
down expensive yachts. The have a wide range of products for insulation and

I am very satisfied with the results attained for the engine and floor. I have
discussed the
generator issue with one of the Soundown reps and he suggested stripping
existing
insulation and applying a peal and stick vibration damping sheet and over that a
2" 2
lb/sf ft insulation. I used 2" fiberglass 2 lb/sf with a lead shield for the
engine
compartment but in the generator compartment I will go with 2' 2lb/sf composite
with
decoupler.

On the sub floor in the salon I used a heavy rubber and foam its also 2 lb/sf
with the
foam side down. This is a great base. Over that I used Dupont engineered
flooring
(Hickory). Looks great and its easy to install. Its a click together product (30
year
warranty) and can be changed out without a big hassle. I would have extended
this sub-
floor through the mid coach and kitchen but, I have a nice tile floor and did
not want to
go over it or tear it out. Thats why my generator sound control will have to be
dealt with
exclusively from below.

I realoze the PH has a whole different set up but I think the principles of
damping
vibration will be similar.
