Break-in Recommendations
its good to have input on the amount of oil you will use while seating
the piston rings. I believe the sleeves get a crosshatch spinn
pattern scored with a hone on the fresh walls. as you break-in the
reman detroit, the piston rings polish the walls and kinda tune in
the rings. during break-in, everytime the piston goes up, oil gets on
the sleeve walls in the little crosshatch score marks and the fresh
rings wont squeegy the oil off as it comes down. this puts the
crankcase lube oil in with the diesel saturated air, then 'bang', the
oil gets burned a little at a time. soon the walls are smooth and
rings are true.
