A newbie's DD questions
John, I will tell you what I think I know.
Older DD engines are either mechanical or electronic controlled operations. There are no intake valves as you stated; the air drafted into the cylinder through holes in the cylinder wall.
Don't know anything about a 71and how the turbo is driven.
All 8v92's I have seen are turbocharged. Some after cooled. I have not seen them all so there may be some out there NA but that would seem to defeat the purpose.
I do not think BB built a East West engine configuration.
My 8v92 is in line, the tranny is behind the axle.

I know that older DD engines are two strokes with cam actuated

exhaust valves but no intakes because they are blower scavenged.

I also think I know that the -71 series GM diesels had belt driven

Rootes-type superchargers.

Here is my first question:

Do all -92 series engines have turbochargers? (ie, not superchargers) .

Second question:

On busses with 8V92 engines, are the engines mounted inline or

transverse? I know that on the old GM 4610/4710 busses with 6V71

engines, the engines were mounted transversely.

On 8V92 engined birds, is the transmission ahead of or behind the

rear axle?

To whoever takes the time to answer this post, MANY THANKS in advance!
