Dan,
That number(5 gal) was a starting point, until you ran it.
The fluid has to circulate through the system(trans, cooler, etc),
and warm up. That's when you get to the exact amount. Remember,
the engine has to be running when checking the fluid level.
If you check it with the engine off, it will show higher on the
stick, as the fluid drains back into the pan when it is not running.
