Shur Flo pump for 2000 LXI
The installation of any RV water pump involves a bit of plumbing -- that's the nature of the process. So, there's no _special_ issue that requires using one or another pump. If you install a pump with the _exact_ same dimensions, you may reduce the level of installation effort slightly, but there isn't necessarily significant extra effort to re-plumb with a different physical size pump.
I replaced the dual water pumps on my coach with a single Shurflo 5.7 and I'm quite satisfied with the result. I also took the opportunity to simplify the installation. The variable speed Shurflo 5.7 does not require the accumulation tank as used by the dual OEM pumps (or any other single-speed pump). So, I removed the piping for the dual pumps and removed the accumulator tank. I then installed PEX tubing using Flare-It connectors to connect the PEX to the polybutylene (gray) plastic OEM pipes. (You must get PB to PEX connectors if you have the gray pipe. PEX to PEX connectors will leak as the inside diameter of the two materials are different.)
If you get a 5.7 pump, be sure to get the "high capacity" screen filter that goes with it. The screen filters with the OEM pumps do not allow sufficient volume of water to pass, causing excess wear on the pump.
I got my plumbing bits and pieces at PEXConnection.com as PEX is not widely available at home centers in my immediate area (due to state and local building codes).
I have a couple of before/after photos that I can put up, if you'd like.

We have two of them. One died this morning and the other one isn't sounding too good. The pumps, Model #2088 -453-444, are OEM I believe. Do we need to stick with original equipment to avoid costly installation issues? Is the newer 5.7 the answer and without installation issues?
