Grounding straps 85FC31?
JR - Its a rainy day here so this is from memory of doing a lot of electrical
work on our bus. The engine has at least one and maybe two ground straps, one near the starter. There is also a ground cable from the battery/starter in the genset tray to the frame. Most important is the ground from the batteries to the frame. This one includes post clamps and jumpers and a cable to the frame. Plenty of possible points of failure here. Note that BB often likes to use a switched ground to control solenoid relays around the bus. There could be many of these small ground connections and they are not always easy to trace. Your bus may have additional grounds if there is a Rediline or other auxilliary electrical equipment. Remember that a ground failure can be where the lug attaches to the cable. You often can't see this problem, and it will test OK with a meter until the cable is asked to pass a lot of current like charging or starting. Bob Griesel '84 FC31 WLII WA --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "James" > > Can anyone tell me where all of the grounds are for a 1985 FC31? I'm having some intermittent electrical issues that I'm sure are related to a faulty ground. I'd like to get under there and clean them up but I'd like to know where they are, underneath all that road grime and soundproofing. > > Any advice and/or tips are greatly appreciated. > > Sincerely, > JR Torrico > > 85FC31 "The Short Bus" > North Fort Myers, FL > |
