ELECTRIC FRIG IN YOUR COACH? WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU
Jack and Liz,
Our 1993 still has the original 20 plus cubic foot Amana electric side by side refer. The upside, is the longivity and reliability (although we have experienced the defrost cycle timer getting stuck a couple of times) [easily addressed]. The downside, is limited dry camping on batteries only. While driving, the inverter handles the load well. When stopped, we are limited to 8-10 hours on the battery bank. At that point you run the generator, travel 10-12 hours, or find shore power. Our house battery bank consists of 8, group 31, gell cell, 12 volt batteries, in parallel. The batteries are about 1 1/2 years old and we expected the replacements to substantialy increase our run time. We have concluded replacement of the refer, with an energy efficient model, would net that result. Obviously we will be interested in your experience and solution.
