Mirror set screws
Bob,

Good post. I'm experiencing the drivers side mirror will move and needs to be adjusted. So far, So good.

Jerry - far as I know, my mirrors are identical to yours.

Those set screws are a royal PITA when stuck. Along with penetrating oil, I used heat from a propane torch. This method is not without problems. For the screw on the bottom, your heater wires travel through this area. For the screw in the mirror head the mirror glass is mounted with a rubber gasket.

If you concentrate the heat carefully the screw may come loose without damaging the wiring or gasket.

I had to remove the mirrors and take everything apart. Of course, those decades-old plain steel screws had rusted so several holes had to be drilled out, then drilled deeper and re-threaded. The screws were then replaced with longer stainless screws. New set screws, new wires and mirror glass while I was at it. Everything back together with anti-seize in the right places.

This job did not happen overnight but the reward has been solid adjustable mirrors for the past 5 years.

Or, 600 bux or so will buy you a new set of heated remote control mirrors.

But, I wanted to tweak them and was unable to loosen hex screws on the bottom or side. I sprayed the set screws with PB Blaster and let it set overnight. I put a breaker bar on the hex key and was still unable to budge them.
