Electric heat
Hi Ron, & Bob,
Solved part of the problem. Ron was correct in that I needed the "Center master switch" in the on position to get the electric heater to work. So that part does work. And the wife thanks you. I guess I am getting senile and forgetful - I was sure it was the front switch that was needed. I still have the problem that the compressor on the front A/C runs when the front master is turned on. It made no difference on the position of the controls on the front thermostat. The only thing the front thermostat seems to control is the blower for the front A/C. I can control the speed of the blower or it works in auto. The blower runs only when cool is selected on the right selector switch. The power switch on the thermostat will turn the blower on or off but has no effect on the compressor. The Front A/C master is the only thing that will turn the compressor off. Again, I am figuring it is a stuck relay. Any ideas as to where it is, if that is the problem. BTW, I do not have a low power light on the thermostats. There are four controls. Fan speed, vertical operation, (lo, med, hi, and auto) on the left side; Power (on and off) a slide switch at the lower middle; Mode switch, vertical operation, (Cool, fan, fan, & gas heat) on the right side; and the temperature control across the top. With all the variations BB has used over the years, I know it can be difficult to identify the equipment sometimes. I hope this helps someone who is more knowledgeable than I.
