check transmission light
After you empty the tranny dump the heat exchanger. I wonder if there is a way
to have the tc pickup new fluid? I would just take it to a shop for a check
over and rechange (if needed). it may be that no replacemet oil is needed and
the issue is unrelated. a 20 year old tranny will have proven the same set of
symptoms in relation to like events and tasks completed. A good tech should be
able to draw limited possibilities and eliminate each quickly while the pan is
off and the recently replace oil is in a clean container.

filter change not four. I will need to change it one more time after the fluid
in the torque converter and coolant lines mix with the synthetic. I double
checked the filter and it is the right one so I don't know maybe there was a
change in capacity around 1988 when they changed to wide body and the book
didn't get changed. I wonder what the book says for 1989 and 1990. Anyway I
will change it again when I change the oil and see if the problem repeats.

flush alsothe transmission cooling device holds fluid. could be that the two
(dino, synthetic) dont mix. even if they do mix when both are new. the old fluid
may be different than what you think due to heat time ,additives, moisture etc.
at idle there is less throw in the t/c and less slinging oil.

screwed with a valve when removing the filter??)

driving, goes off at idle, and it won't shift into fourth gear. Any ideas?
