air step diagnosis

Ralph, I am not so good at reading a wiring diagram but it looks like unswitched power to 86 on k4 and a simple ground on 85. That means the relay is always on, which I don't understand and I am stuck there. In fact, my k4 relay is always on but if I unground it or unpower it the step will extend like it should.

No, the power to the k4 should be removed when the prox switch or the limit switch is made telling the system to reverse. I need to look at my air schematic to be sure of the sequence of operation. Will get it out in the AM. Am going to take a WAG here and bet your going to find a problem with a butt splice in the wiring near the step.

Hi Ralph, I think I am getting closer to the problem. There is power to my k4 relay all the time. Is that normal?

Hi Dan, There are 2 switch doors and 3 switch doors.

2 Switch door; top switch is for the electrical door lock and on some models the burglar alarm as well. The second switch is the step.
3 switch doors; Top switch elect lock, middle switch alarm, bottom switch is for the step.
when the switches are behind a hinge cover, the burg alarm switch is a different configuration, not a button.

There is a change over relay in the manual switch over compartment that ties into the step. (Older FC's. There are 2 or 4 relays involved in the PT's
