Possibly overlooked generator maintenance

into those holes.i use that trick to lube padlocks on gates and the lockbox type mailboxs all the time..randydupree93wb ----- Original Message ----- From: mrdonut12 To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2005 9:11 AM Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Possibly overlooked generator maintenance I'm going through a middle maintenance on my generator (12.5 kw Perkins). Here's some observations while doing so. I replaced the fuel filter on it and there were several large O rings, those are for the top and bottom seals on the element. There are 2 different sized smaller O rings. One goes on the inside of the filter element for the center section, the other is for the center top bolt that holds it all together. I had to remove some fuel lines to get the top bolt out, but it looked like that O ring had been in there forever, in fact, both little O rings looked like that. Be sure they get changed or the unit could suck air or fuel could bypass the filter. I had to bleed the injectors to get it to stay running when done. The real reason for this post is mine has a 110 volt cooling fan motor. There's a little hole on top of each end of this motor, right about the bushings. Those holes are for motor oil to oil the bushings. Be sure to put several drops of oil in each one when you service the generator. This time, I don't think the oil weight is critical ;o). I used 10W30 oil. Another tip for the backyard guys out there.
