Trips to Mexico

I agree with many on the list, leave the Bird North of the Border, or take an
organized tour, say like the Copper Canyon specials where a whole train of flat
cars are loaded down with motor homes and RVs, truly a bizarre sight. I left my
FC33 ( aka Senorita Ferrocarril) at my buddies place in Rough and Ready, Cal.
while I traveled down there.

I disagree with the "its more dangerous than the US" part, nuh uhhh. Yeah, I've
been chased by freaks in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, tried to be shaked down by the
cops in Puerto Escondido, and so forth. Same, if not worse here on the Left
Coast. In general though people down south are genuinely friendly just as much
if not more than here in Estados Unidos. Not trying to start a war, okay?!

Furthermore, to demonstrate my disability, I have twenty-three screws and five
rods in my left leg, I couldn't run to save my life, seriously. The biggest
hinderance a tourist has down south is not knowing where to NOT go, here it's
easy to find out by talking to friends or knowing that a particular city or area
is a lil' seedier than another.

My gig when traveling is chasing trains, and that usually means alot of
neighborhoods where
regular people won't go, including Mexico. My trip last year included Oaxaca,
Veracruz, Puebla, D.F. for a whopping two hours, then Zacatecas, and finally the
incredibly ugly city of
Chihuahua. Avoid the Northern border towns and cities, they truly equate to
worthlessness in my opinion.

Itinerary? Why take the fun out of it? I love(usually) taking the bus network
in Mexico. I remember one driver sliding a gigantic 40 plus footer through turns
on a dirt road near the ruins of Coba, and Valladolid, Yucatan. that was a real
blast!

Food? Most things are okay to eat, though I have had a couple of suspicious
meals on occasion. Water, bottled only. When staying at a hotel find out if
anywhere it says Agua Purificada, never had a problem yet in those places.
Though the shower wasn't grounded and did ever shock the sh** outta me!

Baja? It is definitely American ville there, and likely a better place to stay
long term. At Los Barriles south of La Paz, there is a whole beach with
motorhomes, mostly occupied with our good friends up in Canada. Totally safe
there.

Last, can I go? Please!
