Trip to Mexico
Hi Pete,
It has been some years since we were in the TX area. Used to be stationed at Laughlin AFB at Del Rio, TX. Right across the border is Ciudad Acuna. While we visited there on occasion, we found that we preferred to do our shopping at Piedras Negras which is across from Eagle Pass, TX, about 55 miles south of Del Rio. We found the merchants at Piedras Negras to be much friendlier. Back then, there weren't many tourists there as in Ciudad Acuna. Since we were there, Lake Amistad has been built and there are a lot more recreation spots. I would suggest that you find an RV park on this side of the border and park the "bird" and go over by car or even walk over. If you are retired military, there is a nice fam-camp at Laughlin. If you do take a vehicle, be sure to get Mexican Insurance. You will find numerous places to buy it close to the border or you can get it from several places online. You can buy it for one day up to a year. The longer the period, the cheaper it is. Del Rio has a great history. Langtry is a bit west of Del Rio where Judge Roy Bean held court. In Del Rio there is a winery that has been in business since the 1800's. Those are just a couple of things that come to mind.
