Here's what I got done this week
Hi group,
Happy Easter to you'all (see been in the south for a year now ) Spent the last 3 days in La Quinta while the bird was at WW Williams in Savannah. Here's what I learned and had done... Had an oil change and kingpin check. Looking good. Made sure they jacked up the front end on greasing it. Had the air throttle removed and reasealed..a 10 minute job. Had high idle valve cleaned and new O rings put in. Had an updated Jake Brake installed. In Texas the high setting gave out. When they pulled the valve covers, after removing the exhaust pipes and air filter, found one of the electric solinoids had given out. I wanted an updated Jake anyways after reading on the Jake Brake website that in 95 they issued a bulletin that the injectors were weak. Learned that when replacing Jake parts update the fuel lines also (part of the kit). Reason is the old lines have a flaired fitting and if you overtighten them get a fuel leak. New ones use an O ring, no leaks. They also have to adjust the rack (every 100k miles)when replacing the Jake. Saw how that was done. He starts with no. 1 on each side then goes to 2 on each side and so on. It's more of a hearing thing to get it right. The new engines don't need their racks ever adjusted cause the computer does it for them! Had a broken air line to high idle..fixed. Had proble for pyrometer replaced..fitting broke took some time to drill it out without it dropping in the pipe. Unfortunally didn't solve my pyro gauge problem. Guess I need to find a new gauge. Engine hardly smokes at all on mashing the petal now. Whole thing was $3,200..worth the $ for me!! Bob Lawrence 84 PT36 Elko, Georgia (with 10k on engine now) |
