Jamie, I am not 100% sure in your case, but yes if you are low enough on freon there are low pressure switches that will shut the system down, in order to prevent damage to the compressor. Have your system checked to verify that you have low pressure condition, and then find out where the leak is. This may be a expensive job, or you may be lucky, and just have a couple seals that need to be replaced. Good Luck, George Burke 1977FC31 Charlotte
