There is most likely a low-pressure cut-out switch screwed into the accumulator
which will have hoses that look tougher than for water and have metal fittings, and what looks like a big wart with wires which is the switch. It most likely has to connect to work, which means any time any wire gets corroded or dislodged it will cease. Since you get some cooling by jumping the compressor clutch, it sounds low on freon, presumably 148a. You should be able to purchase a recharge kit at any auto parts chain sometime when their not too busy and have them show you how to hook it up. It will come with a pressure guage, or the store may even loan you a guage, which you can check even before the $19-$25 the kit is likely to cost including your first can of freon. Wear protective eyeware, long sleeves and pants, tie up any loose hair or clothing, and follow the instructions. Be careful the threads don't get crossed. Before you leave the parts store, get someone to show you where your valve is. (The kit instructions are not likely to tell you where to find it in your engine compartment.) Note that if the screw-on fitting seems the wrong size, it probably means you need a different variety of freon. --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "gasparillaglass" wrote: > > dose anyone know if there is a presure switch or anything that would stop the motor ac from working?? > when I jump the compresure it works and gets colder but not that cold > somthing is stopping the compresure from kicking in > if the freon is low will that cose this?? > any help would be apprciated thanks > Jamie Brandt > 1990 wb-40 > florida > |
