I called the two shops that were mentioned, and was informed that the
switch was no longer manufactured and was unavailable. I put the relevant parts
on my workbench to figure how to make it work. A
small piece of rubber cut from a garden hose washer was the asnwer. I
stuffed it so as to spread the prongs on the plastic stub of the switch. This
spread the prongs out with enough force to lock the control knob in place. It
now works fine.

Have I ever used it? No. Am I likely to use it in the future? Just
maybe. But it is gratifying to know that everthing woke on that 26 year old
coach (except for the altimiter). The altimiter is next.
