Cruise control problems.

My cruise control has become erratic. Not only does not always engage,
once engaged it drops off after a few miles. The drop-off seems to occur
when the system attempts to adjust the throttle position. This happens when I
either crest a slight hill or start down an incline. I can feel the throttle
being backed-off, then the control drops off.

I have down-loaded the files on the subject but am hoping that someone
out there might have some more exacting insight into my problem.
