Mark,
Where in San Diego? Were you driving down Pomerado towing a boat last Friday or the one before? As far as the auxiliary battery, BB separates the house from chassis batteries. If you run down the start batteries for the engine, you can use the au. switch to tap the house batteries for starting power. Be careful not to use it all the time or you will just run down all batteries.
