Oh yes, I've been wondering about that! I thought it was maybe red lead anti-fouling paint like they used to use on boat bottoms.

I thought Glyptol rang a bell--I saw it recommended years ago for sealing castings. Supposed to make oil flow better?! I considered it for corrosion-inhibiting inside a seawater-cooled exhaust manifold. Decided not to, but here it is, still recommended for engine interior:

Thanks for the Glyptal reference, this stuff seems to last and last without allowing oxides to form on connections. Now I know what it is Big Grin
