Yes
This is not news..
But the new high diesel cost is.
I guess when the price broke $3 ... My interest increased....

I for one would be interested in any new info you have about lower
cost option to run the BlueBirds.

Have you guys not heard of this sooner? Check out
http://www.greasecar.com also. They had a big MCI that had been converted
with about a 100 gal tank. I've read that the vegetable oil is
actually GOOD for the injectors for lubrication and you'll get the
same MPG as diesel, it just would be "free" and not as much
pollution. Although I bet whoever's behind you on the interstate
would be having some hella-munchies!
And coincidentally I came across a guy tonight with a VW TDI
Jetta with a kit from Greasecar. He said he's had it for about a
year and the only problem was a solenoid that just went out.
There's a group here in Asheville I'm actually talking to
tomorrow about doing a veggie conversion on my two Bluebirds buses
w/ 8.3 Cummins pusher. Asheville is really big on the environmental
stuff so it'll help with exposure.
I really just wish I already had a WVO (waster vegetable oil)
conversion done on our big bus that gets 4-5mph. There's no way I
could afford to run that thing now. Less than two years ago I was
filling my partybus up for $1.32/gall. Now it's easily doubled...in
less than 2 years!! Has anyone salary doubled in the same time??
Didn't think so.
The only real problem I can see is supply, especially for
RV'ers. It would be much easier to do it local and have your drum
already set up for them to dump the waste oil in. I think it would
be much harder to fill up on WVO on the road. Although, I have heard
of people doing it. At least with these systems you can still run
diesel when the WVO is not in supply.
If anyone is interested, I can keep this board posted on what
I find out and if I decide to convert, I can keep you posted. Of
course if everyone did it, there wouldn't be any WVO to get to
everyone, but I think "free" fuel would be awesome if you could
crunch the numbers to offset the cost inital installation, storage
drum, filters, etc. Not to mention the environmental factors as well
as sticking it to the oil companies.
