Steve,

I can't help with the removal but I can tell you how to use your meter.

if the switch or breaker has inly 2 wires attached;

with power on (12 volts) set your meter to 12vdc
ground the black lead of the meter
measure voltage on each wire,
with switch on and if it's good you'll get 12v (aprox) on each wire
with switch off, you will only get it on 1 (the feed side)

without power:

set your meter to the ohms setting
touch the two meter leads together & watch the meter you should see a small
number
now, put one lead on each side of the switch, with switch on you will get a low
number. with switch off you should get no reading or "OL" if a digital meter.
