Points and counter points offered by several members along with web sites to back up each others opinion. Well done by all parties in the aproach. Bottom line, forgetting ohms law and logic applied by calculators to the tables, it really comes down to this as I see it. The question is; What are my needs for my lifestyle? And how do I go about filling that need. True, the RV refrigerator came out to fulfill a need and application and still does for that matter. Then we talk about the basic "home style" refrigerator and it's compatibility with travels. Lets remember that most of us has had the ice maker in the Coaches since day one, and that is a compressor run unit. No different, save for size, from the typical home unit. And they still function very well. So in installing the home type compressor refrigerator only means that if you want to dry camp, you need to run the gen set or have enough amperage to run the proper size inverter. The technology is certainly more advance these days than that of yesteryear. Where as the time honored RV ammonia, gravity fed units lend themselves to the original technology accepted in the RV industry as being standard. That said it still comes down to " the life style you have" and nothing more. So to heck with point and counter point, both will work, that has been proven. You just have to design the change over to fit your needs and what it takes to run it. All of this, of course, is just an opinion, and no web sites to back it up, nor will there be.
