Fuel Filter & Pump

Fuel Filter & Pump
The 352046 print, entitled; "Diagram, Master Wiring, Chassis", shows a
change dated 5/89 that adds a fuel prime pump and switches in the SP.
It consists of a facet pump, a push button mounted in the rear
ignition switch control box and a oil pressure sensor.

The facet pump is wired into the battery terminal of the ignition
switch so it always has power. Pushing the button switch connects the
facet pump to ground and it pumps fuel into the engine.

You push the button switch to fill the fuel filter after opening the
petcock on the fuel injection pump and then run the facet pump until
all the air is discharged. That petcock is shown in the files section
of the other group:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/wanderlodge/files/

in the folder entitled: "3208Fuel&Governor".

The oil pressure sensor is, I believe, normally open and closes when
it senses 3 or 5 psi (am not sure which) at which time it connects the
facet pump to ground. If the engine is not running there is no
pressure and the Facet pump does not run. The purpose of this, as I
understand it, is to keep the engine primed.

Excerpts from the 352046 print are now posted in the file section
here, entitled "SP Fuel Prime Pump".

It is my understanding from posts on the forums that filling a fuel
filter has the risk of getting contaminants into the fuel injection
pump which has tight tolerances.
