Alternator for a 8v92

Alternator for a 8v92
Remember you only have current flow out of the alternators IF you
have a good ground at the alternator and IF you have a complete path
for current to flow. If you use a voltmeter then you dont have to
worry about current flow. When I first got my 1982 FC35 the ground
was intermittent from my alternator. The BB factory had installed the
ground from the alternator to the top of the air compressor and over
the years it had built up corrosion.

Here is what I would recommend. With the engine off touch use either
a voltmeter or a mechanics light (12VDC bulb with a positive and
negative probe) in the following manner. Black lead to ground, red
lead to the +_(positive ) terminal on the alternator. You should read
approximately 13.2 Volts or what ever the voltage output of the
battery is. If you dont read anything, then somewhere between the
battery and your alternator you either have a bad ground or a break
in your positive cable. If you do have an isolator that could be your problem.

If you do read approximately 31.2 VDC at the alternator + terminal,
start the engine and see if the voltage increases to approximately
14.2 VDC. If you get any voltage at all wait and see if it gradually
starts to rise indicating your batteries are charging.

I still have a feeling you have good alternators. I have never seen
both go out at the same time.

good luck
