tire temp info
I bought a infa-red guage at radio shack & wrote to Goodyear for tire temps,
here is there reply: Mr Smalley - Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. Tire temperatures reflect many variables: Ambient temp, road surface temp, ventilation, tire construction, tire type, tire loading, inflation pressure, speed, brake heat, etc. Tire manufacturers are more concerned about a tires internal temperature, with two hotspots being the tires shoulder (thickest part of the tire) and the tires bead area (area that contacts the rim). Relative to your question a nominal surface temperature of 150 deg F would not be uncommon. Anything over 185 deg F would be abnormal and would raise a flag relative to 'cause' of the elevated temperature. Getting a relative feel for the tires temperature is not a bad idea, however to accurately determine the temperature would require an infra-red temperature sensing device or something similar. Thanks for the question. Best regards!! Bill Wolford Engineering Account Manager Tire Applications guy smalley 86pt40 |
