Starting Batteries

Hi All,

I haven't been able to be on the site much lately, but am also at the
point of replacing batteries. I have six Continentals that are about
three years old (group 27). They seem to have needed and excessive
amount of water and I have used distilled. My charger is a Xamtrex. The
setup is horrible. There are four on the bottom and a tray with the top
two a couple of inches above the four. To get to the lower batteries
the top tray has to be removed and all the bateries just about have to
come out to get to them, plus the terminals and battery tops are
usually filthy (lots of acid buildup on negative posts). It takes me a
good half day to take them all out and clean and water.

Should I got to Trojans, something maintanence free or what? Also, my
battery up front, I thought was for the generator, is not. It is just
an auxilary battery. You can completely disconnect it and start the
generator. However, you can tell it kicks in when you push the aux
switch. So, I guess I have several concerns. Thanks for any help.
