Question about "Woody's Genset Modification"....
Scott,
No modification to the Perkins genset will completely eliminate the noise that it creates, similar to the new "Quiet Diesel" gensets, but doing this modification does indeed reduce the noise level of the Perkins gensets. I just had the same modification done to mine with a little more of a twist, since I needed a new fan motor, I opted to install a household squirrel cage fan instead of the original style fan, this helped somewhat , but the elimination of the radiator opening in the door was perhaps the most significant reduction in noise area. I still need to redo the insulation in the generator compartment, as all of the old insulation is gone, with the exception of the new door, where I installed new insulation. The muffler that I chose to install, a tractor muffler was the wrong choice, as it is now the most noticeable noise, so that will be changed soon to an auto style muffler, I have some other ideas that I am going to try, but I will reveal those when I have put them in to use, if they do anything to help reduce some noise. You can check out the modification that was done to mine by going to my web site and checking out, the numerous photos of the modification starting at; http://www.pbase.com/iamflagman/image/52361793 "REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11, 2001" John Finn '82 35FCRB BLUEBIRD WANDERLODGE TO VISIT THE "FINN'S INN EXPRESS" REMODELING ADVENTURE GO TO; http://www.pbase.com/image/24977457 '66 SUPERIOR / IH 392 GAS V8 32' PUSHER "FOR SALE" SEE THE OLD COACH AT: http://www.pbase.com/image/26052733 HOPKINS, SOUTH CAROLINA ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Scott Forman" <sforman@r...> wrote: > > Mine "sucks in" through the vent now, does that mean my fan has > already been reversed?
