Welcome aboard Brian, and you are looking at the right coaches in the
Wanderlodge IMO. We have four children, have struggled with sleeping accomodations in our Wanderlodge coaches. Having some interest and experience modifying Wanderlodge interiors, I too have been interested in the bunk arrangement such as the Newell you've mentioned. In the Newell you're mentioning, the bunks are pretty well designed and reasonably useable. I feel that the design (up high, too high IMO for young ones) is really more for teens-adults. It is fairly sturdy when down, pins to the brackets when up. Very heavy beds, takes some strength to raise/lower. The storage is one big issue on this coach, as the beds have little space on them when stowed and allow no overhead storage. A necessary evil I suppose to gain increased sleeping space. I've seen bunk-bed conversions in a couple of Wanderlodges, and so far I haven't seen it done well (IMO). It can be done, and the ceiling / walls of the Wanderlodge do have the strength to support them. You might call Coachcraft by MacDonald in Columbus, GA about the possibility of converting one, they might even know of one out there that could be bought, I don't know. - Jeff Miller in Holland, MI --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Brian Gatley" wrote:<<snip>> > Is anyone familiar with the bunk system that is in the Newell above and > possible ways to install a similar system in a Wanderlodge? > > Also, any other tips anyone has for a "newbie Wanderlodge wanna-be" > would be helpful. > > Brian |
