Ride Height
Steve,
According to the Ridewell service manual for my 85PT40, the ride height is checked/adjusted by measuring the height of the pedestal, top to bottom, with air bags fully pressurized, on a level surface. For my rig, the steer axle pedestal heights are 6.75 inches and the drive axle pedestal heights are 8.06 inches. This specification is for the Ridewell "Allair" suspension, models RAS-227 and RAD-227. The air suspensions on the PT40's and PT38's may or may not be different. If you don't have the service manual, maybe someone on the forum with a PT38 has one and can verify the specs. The body to ground measurement requires, among other things, that your rig be parked on a very level surface, that you don't do a vertical measurement into a slight depression in the ground, and that your tires are evenly inflated. However, the pedestal height measurement, which still requires a level surface to adjust, measures the mounting height between the frame and axle, and determines the ride height with more accuracy. It appears your rear height level is too high. I'd adjust it according to pedestal height. The body to ground measurement can be used to occasionally spot check your ride height to give you a heads up about a potential problem.
