Roof rail covers

There are several cracks in the rail covers on the roof of my coach
(front).

Can these cracks affect the water tightness of the coach?

Should I first remove the covers, seal what is under the covers
(including any screw holes for the covers) and then seal around the
covers?

Should I just seal the cracks as is?

Anything else I need to know about these covers?
