ENCLOSING THE PERKINS/GENSET COMPARTMENT

ENCLOSING THE PERKINS/GENSET COMPARTMENT
One of the things that I wanted to do was to see if I could reduce
the sound level of my Perkins genset. I had already added a squirrel
cage fan and eliminated the grill opening in the door, but it still
had a lot of noise yet. The next thing I did was to re-insulate the
compartment and that reduced the sound some more, but I wanted to go
further with the sound reduction, so I added two panels to the back
side of the generator compartment effectively closing the area back
there by 75%.

The real test will be during the summer months when the genset is
under full load and the temperature is very hot, but right now in 70°
weather it runs just fine.

You can see my plans and how I accomplished this modification,there
are three pages to this modification, so be sure to click on the next
at the right of each page to see the next one, start by going to;

I will compare this modification with other similar gensets at Maxton
and that will tell if the effort paid off or not.
